Last night I attended an inspiring event: Meet Plan Go. It was an event where world travelers shared practical advice on how to plan a trip around the world, or just part of it, for an extended period of time, typically for a career break. Or just because. The tag line is “Stop dreaming, start packing.” The [...] Have you ever just dropped everything to suddenly go on vacation?
Not just decided to drive to the beach for the weekend. But did something like see a great price for tickets to Paris or Tokyo and decided to just throw a few things into a bag and hop on the plane? I haven’t yet [...] Check out this blog post about why we travel. Love it! My favorite three reasons: Because comfort zones become constricting zones over time. When you travel, do you ever feel connected with the others who are traveling a similar path?
Like a tour group you end up with at a museum, or a family that adopts you on the bus to somewhere, the people you meet in the breakfast room at your hotel, the traveler next to [...] It’s a dream of many and something I’ve toyed with from time to time: traveling around the world. One can chuck it all and, if not independently wealthy, earn money on the road. Or one can set a target number of countries to visit: the 192 UN countries like Chris Guillebeau, the 195 independent states recognized by [...] Here are some key phrases I learn before I head off to places where I don’t speak the language. Please / thank you / you’re welcome When you travel, do you prefer to fit in with the locals or stand out in the crowd? There are times when it isn’t really your choice, like tall, pale, redheaded me in Japan or Mexico City. Both places where I attracted a lot of attention, often from young adults studying English who fearlessly (bless ‘em) [...] To learn. And to find a new version of myself amongst the wonders of this world. Why do you travel?
