Regular readers know what a fan I am of Chris Guillebeau and his quest to travel everywhere (to all 193 United Nations member states) by April 2013. He only has 8 countries left. Go Chris! I’m also a huge fan of his approach to life and travel in general. To steal that great marketing line, it [...] As I prepare for what looks like will turn out to be a peripatetic year, I am thinking a lot about my stuff. The kind of stuff to take with and the kind of stuff to leave behind. And what will happen to the stuff of mine I leave behind in the care of others. I know [...] Today, the world feels very small to me. Like I could hold it in my hand. It just seems funny that it is still as big as it is. And that it takes as long as it does to get from one place to another. In the mornings I work with teachers who are in Poland, but [...] At last, I finally figured out how to use Skype on my cell phone and possibly even integrate it with my phone number. Not that it’s the hard, it just took me awhile to a) get an iPhone and b) set up the service. Now maybe I don’t need to worry that my phone service isn’t [...] What are your travel dreams for 2012? Places I want to go outside the U.S.: Thailand, England, France, Belgium, and Poland. Farther-fetched but still on the list of possibilities: South Korea, Japan, Australia, Bali, Costa Rica, Panama. When I was born, I was the 3,367,491,156 th person alive on the earth. Neat. Many of us have a love-hate relationship with the holiday season. We love the good stuff, but can easily become overwhelmed with expectations, invitations, and cogitations. Here’s a drop of virtual peregrination and a dose of exultation at the wonders of the planet of our inhabitation. Where in the World? To plan to meet people, perhaps for a meal or excursion, in a new city or town. I have stayed at environmentally conscious hotels and worked with providers who weren’t the worst non-eco folks out there.
