Another of my favorite things about traveling…finding a treat, in my case that means candy, and stuffing your suitcase with as much as they’ll legally let you bring home. Atop my kitchen counter at this very moment: my beloved Fizzers. Fresh from a plane ride with me home from London. Yum. By accident, I’ve discovered a new way to see a place when a travel. Up close and personal, right on the ground. I discovered this while in a bit of a hurry to find the Paddington train station to hop my train to the airport. I’d left plenty of time to get there, but was feeling [...] To all the strangers in London who helped me find my way: The two adorable young men who directed me away from the football game I was apparently heading for and into the Tube station I was actually looking for. Something I probably never need to learn to do: gurning. But if you’re itching to see some world champs, mark your calendars for September 17, 2011. The World Gurning Championships will be held that day at the Egremont Crab Fair in Cumbria, U.K. It’s one of the oldest fairs in the world, apparently, established in 1267. Gurning [...] |
