Another of my favorite things about traveling…finding a treat, in my case that means candy, and stuffing your suitcase with as much as they’ll legally let you bring home. Atop my kitchen counter at this very moment: my beloved Fizzers. Fresh from a plane ride with me home from London. Yum. Best wafer candy in the world…Fizzers, by Swizzels-Matlow. They also make Love Hearts (and who doesn’t love a nation that enjoys candy with messages on it year ’round, not just for Valentine’s Day?). If you’ve never had Fizzers you should know they look like Smarties (the American version, not the Nestle chocolate version sold elsewhere). Little [...] Quite possibly the best book ever written: Candyfreak, by Steve Almond. It’s a mesmerizing and luscious tour through the world of small, independent candy makers.
