Christmas markets…

A few years ago I had the chance to visit my first Christmas market, in Salzburg.

What a treat it was. Warm people and warm hearts to ward off the Christmas Eve chill. Fun toys and tchotchkes. Delicious aromas from the food carts.

I highly recommend visiting one if you get the chance.

There I was, wandering around the Christmas market surrounding the cathedral, just hours before it closed for the season. Taking in the sights, the sounds, the smells, wondering what I should nosh on. When suddenly, much to my surprise, passed a personage into my view.

After walking through customs in Salzburg, I hopped a cab to my hotel. The Am Dom.

No problem. I knew the basic pleasantries of German, the name of my hotel, and roughly how much to expect it to cost. Of course, I didn’t know is how to actually pronounce the name of my hotel. Can’t be [...]
